Crank supports help prevent the crankshaft snout from breaking. They are a cradle design which has a heavy duty bearing located on the crank and its all tied back to the block. Nov 04, 2012 · I cannot seethe point of a billet crank in a Holden v8, the block will split bores or lift its heads before the crank will die, either fit a decent cast crank and use a crank support on the snout or another option is get a cast crank with big block snout (I'm sure this was an option when I brought my crankshaft rebuilders crank).
