Jan 28, 2019 · Now that I got my stuck crank hub off I found that it Microwelded itself to the crank snout. That raises the question of how to prevent it from happening again. Last time I took it off it was fine. Switched to a Bryant crank from a forged and added a crank support. After that it was Microwelded. No other changes to the engine.

May 18, 2016 · If you can use big block chev size snout would have a chance of lasting, stock size ford not as good. The big truck crank snout is big and could be turned down to chev size. If you could run a crank support bearing would help with stock size ford snout too.

Jan 04, 2016 · At 10% over with a 6-71 , you are ok with a double keyway, but with a 8-71 you should consider two things : A Crankshaft support, and/or a Big Block Snout on your crank. At anything higher than 15% over with a 6-71 and 10% over with a 8-71 all small blocks should be equipped with a crankshaft support.

Also, be aware that the crankshaft snout is longer (by about an inch) on LS7/LS9 applications, to accommodate the two-stage dry sump pump drive. You can adapt an LS7 or LS9 crank to other LS engines, but it’s not so easy when trying to use a short-snout crank for a dry sump drive, unless an aftermarket supplier offers a snout extension hub.

Jun 25, 2011 · I'd start with a crank, probably a billet, ordered with a BBC snout as it's the largest diameter one that parts are generally available for. It's also much shorter and therefore stronger and won't require a support. Just substitute a BBC timing gear for the crank gear in your timing set as MOST are the same diameter.
