Either all these articles about conservative support for HUGE government spending are flat out wrong, or conservative economists are so spineless that they have just kept their mouth shut.

I think most economists employed in the political sector tend to be Keynesians. Keynesians support stimulus during recessions, and austerity during periods of economic strength. Both mainstream parties tend to employ them when they are in power. From a far left perspective they seem conservative, and from a far right position they seem liberal.
