I am trying to compile the head branch of openldap on a RH 6.2 machine. I downloaded and installed the cyrus sasl libraries in /usr/local/lib, headers in /usr/local/include. However, whenever I tried to compile openldap with sasl support, the configure script would always report "Cyrus-SASL not found" and abort.

I did the installation from openldap rpm files. And yes - if there is no other option then i have to go to re-compiling the entire system with SASL enabled packages. Jun 19, 2017 · Somehow the problem has finally been resolved! I removed the packages and reinstalled them (including pam-devel for IMAP), installed "openldap-devel cyrus-sasl-devel" first and then "pam-devel" but the problem remained.

Compiling in SASL support should be sufficient. One way to trouble shoot is to use the provided ldap utilities to verify gssapi authentication before trouble shooting your client application. ~$ kinit [email protected]

it is trying to link against a library called openldap, but when I look in my openldap lib dir I don't see a libopenldap.so: liblber.so libldap.so libldap_r.so It looks like value in -lopenldap is coming from the --with-ldap=openldap option, so if I change that to --with-ldap=ldap it seems to work.
