Why isn't rsync copying ACLs? EDIT I ran "portmaster rsync" to compile it from source, and I selected ACL in its build option. That version of rsync now supports ACL and worked as expected with the above command. It looks like the bundled FreeBSD rsync binary was compiled without ACL support.

Rsync built from ports using the standard options (i.e. with the ACL option unset) doesn't have this bug. Code inspection suggests that the problem is likely caused by "extrapatch-acl" making "set_acl" unconditionally return "changed == 1".
Somebody knows if it's possible to compile rsync (version 3 would be great, but can be 2.6.x) under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes? ... This made me conclude the xattr code automatically activates the ACL support. And as ACL doesn't compile on 10.3 it seems it will not possible to have xattr on 10.3.Author: Robert Dutoit

Jun 18, 2009 · Just fetch rsync-src, install the linux which esxi4.0 is based on (i don't think it's still RHEL3) in a vm and compile rsync in this vm with (--with-included-pop --disable-acl-support --disable-xattr-support, as these libs are not available on esxi).
