However, the fastcgi script still complained about existing script map. Finally I tracked it down, I had to right click on Default Web Site and clear out the php mappings from there too. Then it all worked, except that for some strange reason, the php.ini file that gets picked up is the one from my old PHP directory, not the latest upgrade one.

Aug 15, 2010 · first of all php 4 doesn't supported anymore. second: if you execute php from command line (eg: php -v) itt will use the cli interface obviously.

if I tell it to install those things and then check php with php -v I get php (cli) instead of fast-cgi I am apparently missing something here I am new to linux so maybe I am making some newbie mistake when they give the instructions to compile it with fast-cgi support...
