May 20, 2014 · Can you please let me know the diff b/w mtu and ip mtu? And even if i'm trying to give the mtu value less than 1500, it is not accepting. R2(config-if)#mtu 1000 % Interface FastEthernet0/0 does not support user settable mtu. And i tried to setup ip mtu 1000, but i didn't see it changed here: I think i should know the diff. Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the largest size in bytes that a certain layer can forward. The MTU is different for each protocol and medium that we use. Ethernet for example has a MTU of 1500 bytes by default. This means that a single Ethernet frame can carry up to 1500 bytes of data. On top of this data we add the Ethernet header.

This fragmentation does not occur on the return path through the universal access concentrator (UAC) (Cisco 6400 or 7200).

Dec 13, 2016 · I've got an older Cisco Catalyst 4500 that customer wants to use for 10Gig-E attached iscsi. I've advised the customer to go a different route, unfortunately they seem to be stuck on using this switch. Everything is fine and dandy, except for the ability to support jumbo frames. the "system mtu jumbo blah" command isn't even available.
