GRE is not supported on the 3750s. The General Routing Encapsulation (GRE) tunnel is not supported by the Cisco Catalyst 3750 Series Switches. Even though this feature can be configured with CLI, the packets can be neither switched by hardware, nor by software, which increases the CPU utilization.

Apr 06, 2009 · Hi Chris,Both the 3550 and 3560 only support GRE tunnels in software. Now, the documentation indicates that it is not supported altogether, but the CLI does exist, and for very low volume traffic, a GRE tunnel can be configured and will function.Keep in mind that every packet going through the GRE tunnels will be CPU switched, and can lead to high CPU situations.

we are using 3750-X [c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-2.SE9.bin] as core switch and 3850 switch as access layer switch. Because of some reason, we are having 99% CPU utilization on core switch. 99% utilization we are getting every hour on core switch.
