Apr 13, 2016 · All that can be said is just that once Cinnamon gets support for Wayland, we'll see more and more support and distros switching. Considering Linux Mint is basically the most used Linux distro that is out there, it's the one to give directions.

Jan 22, 2018 · I would like Cinnamon to move from Xorg to Wayland fully such as KDE are doing with its desktop environment and if you accept this request then apps like steam would use the xorg compatibility like xwayland to run on cinnamon.

Even more importantly, several major desktop environments do not run natively under Wayland. Neither Cinnamon nor MATE, Linux Mint’s popular desktops, are expected to run under Wayland for at least a couple of years. Currently, Xfce has no plans to support Wayland at all.
