This solution has issues if I'm using someone else's machine without (a port-forwarding-capable) SSH, etc. It would be nice if the browser could support securely talking to the proxy itself, since the HTTP proxies appear to support HTTPS connections to them (I think this can be set up with Apache mod_proxy as well).
