Mar 02, 2006 · I just installed centOS 4.2, and discovered that it does not have reiserFS support. I downloaded the vanilla kernel src and compiled a new kernel, added some rows to grub.conf - But my new kernel doesn't boot.

Dec 15, 2010 · If you are getting mount: unknown filesystem type ‘reiserfs’ which means that your kernel does not support the reiserfs file-system and it will resolve if you install the centos-plus kernel which has the reiserfs support in-build. Install the reiserfs-utils # yum install reiserfs-utils

First of all, let me respond to the ReiserFS naysayers: a) ReiserFS3 is a stable, fast, space-efficient (specially with lots of small files), reasonably maintained (just check the kernel changelogs) and extremely robust filesystem: I've used ReiserFS in all my servers (a few dozen of them) since 2001 or so and it has never given me any trouble.

c) The OP requested a solution to run ReiserFS on his CentOS server, not a lecture on the merits of other filesystems and/or the demerits of Mr. Hans Reiser, so I think we would all do a lot better if we just stick to the matter at hand.

Apr 28, 2012 · HowTo: Enable reiserfs support on CentOS 6.2 and SL6.2 By default RHEL clones such as CentOS and Scientific Linux don't come with ReiserFS filesystem support. However the ELRepo repository has the kmod-reiserfs package which provides the much needed kernel modules.

Aug 03, 2006 · I was wondering if XFS/JFS/ReiserFS support was in the 4.3 boot kernel? I'm using kickstart to deploy a bunch of workstations and servers. All of these boxes need to have one partition with XFS/JFS/ReiserFS .
