I think you can start claiming income support on the official day of starting your holidays -- IE end of year not sure if they hold payments back for a few weeks (IE have to be out of work for 2weeks or similar) where are you from? Also when you are at uni - you can apply to the discretionary fund for a bursary

Thats what you should do, only takes about a week to process and you can sign on immediately, apply for a few jobs and make it clear to the employer that you only want temporary work so you have a chance, but do not tell the Job Centre, just make it sound like they have all rejected you. If you live on your own, you can also claim Income Support.
