Feb 11, 2014 · It support controllers, but it doesn't support automatic buttons mapping (so you need to configure it first). Go into the options, and remap buttons manually and it'll work (at least, it work with a 360 controller, dunno if it support every controller).

I've started out with hard-setting and I'm now spending much more time getting killed in duels over and over waiting for a few minutes of actual game play in between :( I've looked for at cheat but havent found any - any suggestions?

It's a common issue with a number of Techland's Chrome engine titles as the same issue occurs in Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Ghost Warrior and Mad Riders. It's not a rare fluke, it's the common problem that has no fix.
