Photographers have RAW and HDR file formats for dealing with this stuff. We have Deep Color, in all its 30bit (10bpp), 36bit (12bpp) and 48bit (16bpp) glory. Or really, just 36bit (12bpp), but 48bit can be used as a RAW format if we wanted.. So the point of this nerding: An ideal display would be 4K, support 12bit RGB or 12bit YCbCr, at 60 FPS.. The thing is, HDMI 2.0 doesn’t support it!

Dec 06, 2016 · Doing the initial setup of the UHD Blu-ray player can be a challenge mainly because there is no specific settings for color depth (8/10/12-bit) or color sampling. I suggest you set up your Blu-ray Player to output 4K/24fps with Deep Color on “Auto’. That will result in 10-bit or 12-bit color, 4:2:2 color subsampling and HDR.

Apr 26, 2013 · HDMI Deep Color Output: Off. This is a more controversial setting, but no Blu-ray content uses Deep Color, and most displays aren’t designed to properly use it, or can’t display it, so shutting it off avoids possible problems, and under the current standard it has no benefit.
