dbus-monitor works as expected (meaning it shows the bus-traffic if the bus is present and it fails if the bus is not present) Since you get the same gnucash errors with and without a working bus, it means either that the problem is not dbus related or, as it worked with the old x11 enabled dbus that it uses a hardcoded X11 method for finding the bus.
