Sep 15, 2013 · Support Beam. In the recreation room portion of the basement, floor joists are supported by a main beam that runs the length of the room. The problem here was that the beam stopped at the chimney, leaving another 8 feet or so unsupported.

I'm redoing a basement after flooding and just found this little hack.. Apparently previous owner removed permanent support post for some reason and then at some point installed this temporary jack post and covered it up with dry-wall (Im guessing so house would pass inspection).
