Note: This issue has been reported with Backup Exec servers running on Windows Server 2008, to properly backup Exchange 2013 with GRT the Media Server must be Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later. Backups without GRT enabled will still function as ese.dll from Exchange 2013 is not loaded during a non-GRT backup.

As you are running an Exchange GRT backup to tape, the temp location for staging would be on the Exchange server and it would choose the volume which has max free space available.
