So you're limited to Linux distributions still running on a 2.x kernel, ie. basically to RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 (kernel 2.6.18) and 6 (kernel 2.6.32). Backup Exec doesn't "support" the latest updates of these either, but you'll probably get away with it.
