Jun 21, 2012 · I have avoided Sony products for a few years (since I became an iMac and iPhoto user) due to the lack of compatibility with AVCHD. Apple release an update today to iPhoto that specifically adds AVCHD support to iPhoto!

Dec 05, 2015 · iPhoto you used to be able to directly import AVCHD. I know Photos (daft name! as videos can be used to), is a new product, but they be stripped so many features away that were used. Numerous Mac users would have used iPhoto and now been almost forced to use Photos and not just lost features, but confusion because of this

AVCHD files are not supported on Mac OSX 10.7 Lion and below at all. OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion and above handle them in an unexpected and klunky way (more on this later).
