Unified Video Decoder (UVD), previously called Universal Video Decoder, is the name given to AMD's dedicated video decoding ASIC. There are multiple versions implementing a multitude of video codecs, such as H.264 and VC-1. UVD was introduced with the Radeon HD 2000 Series and is integrated into some of the AMD GPUs and APUs.

Apr 02, 2013 · This UVD support will come for the Radeon HD 4000 "R700" graphics cards through the Radeon HD 7000 "Southern Islands" graphics cards. This is effectively UVD2 hardware and newer. There was the original UVD decoder found with the Radeon HD 2000 GPUs and UVD+ to come with the Radeon HD 3000 series, but this support is targetting UVD2 and beyond.

Apr 01, 2012 · In spec of most ATI cards, UVD (unified video decoder) is one feature of card. It is used for acclerating video decoding by using hardware. When we try use DXVA 2.0 API on windows to decode 720p MP4 file with LTR, we find there is mosaic in output on ATI cards such as 6950 and so on. But the same code is run well on NVIDIA cards.

AMD/ATI Kernel Version. UVD support is only possible on linux kenerl 3.10 and greater Ubuntu Graphic Drviers Ubuntu 13.10. Ubuntu 13.10 is shipped with a version of mesa that needs to update to get the full performance out of the UVD decoder. This is simply be done by adding the Updated and Optimized Open Graphics Drivers PPA.

Jun 07, 2018 · It seems that even after 4 months of stuck in UVD feature on 1st gen GCN cards, amd is unaware of it. My guess is that AMD support treats word UVD within tickets as spam. This issue does not hit me personally but others maybe need fixes from newer drivers.Reviews: 37
