Sep 15, 2019 · The AR95xx series is the last supported by FreeBSD. I cannot say definitively your module is supported because of the "x" you used in describing the module. But the AR9565 uses ath9k so you are probably OK. It is in the AR956x range. I have only used AR9580 module so I cannot personally vouch for AR956x support.

In the past, Ubquiti Networks (www.ubnt.com) shipped Atheros based boards and NICs. Any/all NICs from Ubiquiti work - however now they've moved to integrated units that include the wireless hardware onboard. These NICs are known to work: SR2, SR5, XR2, XR5, SR71-A, SR71-12, SR71-15, PCIe SR71 ; Unex (www.unex.com.tw) ship a variety of Atheros NICs.

Aug 13, 2017 · The easiest way of getting wireless working in your situation is to use a supported usb-based wireless network adapter, even if it isn't elegant and might be a hassle. Getting unsupported cards working with FreeBSD can take big chunks of your time.

Most of this is taken from the FreeBSD Handbook's wireless page, just leaving out most of the explanations and opinions. In the example, we'll use an Atheros card, which your FreeBSD system sees as ath0, and is one of the more common cards. Note that in FreeBSD-11 and onwards, you won't see ath0. Does the sytem see your card?
