The driver you have at the moment doesn't support auto channel-widths (or indeed changing the channel-width), so it's sticking you at 20MHz which won't let you see 40MHz channel-widths. While this appears to be an issue for you at 5GHz this will also cause an issue if you want to connect to a 2.4GHz AP/Router which also uses 40MHz channels.

Jan 08, 2010 · Pals, if you want to use the 5GHz mode on your AR928x card, it depends on the type of your wifi card. The best way to identify your card is to remove the deck and read the label on the card.. If you have AR9281 it is the single-band card, so it supports only 2,4 GHz, and if you have AR9280, it´s the dual-band card which supports 5GHz as well

Mar 05, 2011 · The Atheros card does not support 5gHz so no driver is going to change that. I was very disappointed in this as well. If you get adventurous want to take apart your computer, it's been confirmed that the Intel Centrino 6200 card can be successfully installed in its place and will work on an F11.

May 02, 2017 · What I've noticed is that the Wireless Cards in these laptops are based on Atheros AR946x devices and for some reason seem to be stuck on 2.4Ghz and I'm sure they are 5Ghz capable. We're running the latest drivers as recommended by Toshiba but they is no option in the drivers configuration to force 5Ghz and they absolutely refuse to switch to 5Ghz.
