Apr 11, 2011 · I have noticed, however that Asterisk is in fact listening for tcp traffic on port 5060. I have two Asterisk instances running on two separate servers on a local network. One Cisco IP phone is connected to each Asterisk instance. The two Cisco IP Phones are using Skinny. The Asterisk instances talk to each other using SIP, instead of IAX.

I have been using SIP over UCP. I just installed a Pantech modem on my router, and it or Verizon appear unable to support UCP. I tried using TCP on my wired connection, and the SIP phones are unable to register. I unblocked the ports on my router. Is there anything I need to do on the FreePBX / Asterisk server to enable SIP traffic over TCP?

I am trying to get a sip client working on my cell phone. Someone recommended trying tcp over udp. I have TCP Only set under the the extension settings in freepbx as well on the client but it wont register? Is there anywhere other settings i am missing? I have looked under Asterisk SiP settings and see nothing relavant to tcp? Thanks

SIP over TCP has a significant advantage over UDP for mobile devices. The reason is due to the use of NAT, and how NAT table entries in a wireless router or a cell providers' router are generally timed out much quicker for UDP vs TCP.
