Mar 12, 2012 · The Jingle support within Asterisk was primarily created while the specification for Jingle was still in progress. This led to fragmentation between a channel driver for Google Talk support and a channel driver for proper Jingle support. To this day this fragmentation continues to exist.

Oct 28, 2010 · The Asterisk support for Jingle is certainly an interesting move, and one that Asterisk pro’s can jump on to take advantage of Google Voice free calling. It is unclear, though, as to whether Google Voice will maintain free/cheap calling as a long-term business venture.

May 23, 2018 · I configured Asterisk to register as a client to my xmpp server. Initiating a call from Asterisk to aTalk does work, but I'm unable to make a call from aTalk, because the phone icon never appears. Asterisk can also connect as an external component to the xmpp server, but I don't know if and how it could be used for jingle calls.
