The IBM i operating system does not log system operation messages using the syslog API. 5250 green screen, ftp, iSeries Navigator, and other native IBM i connections will not be logged using syslog. IBM i object authorization errors will not be logged to by syslog either.

Hello to use the audit journal to get events like logon/logoff is adding complication where its not required. as soon as you don't need realtime events, for which you would have to develop an journal receiver program which is pretty complicated and for not much events. this journal is full of auditing info regarding objects rights etc that are useless for you.
