Sep 29, 2018 · Ardour on Linux only supports Linux VST (.so), Ardour on Windows only supports Windows VST (.dll) and in both cases the architecture must match: 32bit Ardour only loads 32bit VST. 64bit Ardour only 64bit VST. There is no bridging. For Ardour4 see Edit > Preferences > Plugins (where you can specify a path to VSTs).

Sep 29, 2018 · We do not provide support for building Ardour in general, and we specifically do not support building it with Windows VST support on Linux. The capability to do so is there, but it is not something we wish to encourage.

Sep 29, 2018 · Once you have ardour built with this support, you can put your VSTs (*.dll) in /usr/lib/vst (or /usr/local/lib/vst, I don’t really know, but on my system, one is a symbolic link to the other). You can have a different location if you set the environment variable VST_PATH to whatever location you wish.
