Linux Kernel should have VFAT support builtin, not as a module. In new computes, where UEFI support is mandatory, can happen to dummy users (as I am) to forget to mount or correctly update linux kernel in EFI partition. This is not a big deal if efi partition (a FAT partition) can be mounted and let the user to update the kernel.
