Aquamacs Emacs. This project is Aquamacs Emacs, a modified distribution of Emacs for Mac OS X. Aquamacs tracks GNU Emacs, merging from the latest release branch. Aquamacs is not a fork. Aquamacs is designed to make it easy for users to get started with Emacs. It also makes it easy to switch between different programs on the Mac.

Aquamacs is an Emacs for Mac OS X that will feel mostly like an Aqua program - while still being a real GNU Emacs with all the ergonomy and extensibility you've come to expect from this world-class editor.

1. Add path to makeinfo to use a modern version in homebrew, instead of the built-in Mac OS one that Emacs no longer works with. 2. Add NOGIT environment variable for the nightly build to suppress updating files from git during development on the build code. If NOGIT is set to anything non-empty, the git fetch will not run.

As I understand it, gnutls is required for building Emacs 26 unless you explicitly disable it. Having built-in support would make this problem go away, except possibly for a configuration step which could be added in Aquamacs. The problem then, I think, would be that the gnutls shared library would need to be shipped with Aquamacs.

My Git repository for my Emacs files lives at ~/elisp/ I have Emacs config files in two other places: 1. a file: ~/.emacs 2. a directory: ~/Library/Application Support/Aquamacs\ Emacs. I tried moving the file and the directory into ~/elisp so I can track them in Git, then using symlinks to restore them to their original location virtually.

I'd also recommend against the latter: It's a fork, and while it gives you best OS X integration, it inevitably lags behind, and receives less support from the Emacs community overall. Many packages don't support Aquamacs, so if there are issues, there's a good chance for you to be left alone as an Aquamacs user.
