If an EFI update can upgrade the drives on a 2011 iMac to SATA 6 Gb/s, can another such update upgrade the DVD Bay SATA port on the MBP 2011 to 6Gb/s also???? After all, both ports use the same chip. Perhaps Apple is throttling the speed down on the DVD SATA port just like it throttled down the second HD SATA port on the iMac 2011.

May 23, 2012 · I would venture to guess that you are, like me, trying to use DVD +R burnable media. The Matshita UJ-898 in my MBP says that it can write: CD-Write: -R, -RW. DVD-Write: -R, -RW. This tells me that it won't work with DVD +R media. A pity, I thought those days were past. Also a bummer because I have mostly DVD +R media around here.
