AP Sona is great, she's like a carry support who literally carries the game through sheer damage and insane healing when she snowballs, zooming around the map at a constant 600ms and 1 shotting squishies.

As someone who plays a ton of AP Sona I find myself asking this question I tend to only buy it in ranked games just to appease people and stop people from pointing out the support has no sightstone so they are inting It's not that I dislike warding, I play a lot of supports and always get Sigh

And, like Thamoo had said already, Sona's AP ratios aren't that great so the items like Aegis & Shurelya would be more beneficial to you as Sona and your team.

For starters, people really need to make better item distinctions than support versus AP, as there are quite a few notable support items which give a sizeable amount of AP. So instead of support versus AP, it's better to say support versus carry itemization.

Not sure if this is just a low ELO problem or something that happens will into Gold or Plat.... Building 21/9/0 or something like 28/0/2 on a support and taking nothing but Ability Power runes shouldn't help the team in the long rune, but yet Sona manages and win team fights like nothing because of her pure AP damage builds.

I'm always really conflicted about this. Sona is a champion that scales really well with AP. It makes her and her team stronger, faster, and bulkier. On the other hand, Redemption is a really great support item all around, and does a lot for her stats too (but not increasing her AP).
