The Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support (ALS) course was launched 1993. It is a standardised national course teaching evidence-based resuscitation guidelines and skills to healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom.

Students will learn the skills needed to manage 9 advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) scenarios: respiratory emergency, 4 types of cardiac arrests (simple VF/VT, complex VF/VT, PEA (Pulseless Electrical Activity) and asystole), 4 types of pre-arrest emergencies (bradycardia, stable tachycardia, unstable tachycardia and acute coronary syndromes).
Many of the nursing and junior medical staff reported they felt disorganised and of little help to the situation and would have performed much better if they had a defined and well practised role. In response to this we created the Cardiac Surgery Advanced Life Support Course.
