I want to show a detail modal panel from a datatable clicking on a row, but it seems that the reRender attribute of some a4j tags (in the example there's a4j:support but i have tried with commandButton and commandLink too) doesn't work on Internet Explorer.

"ajaxRendered" attribute of the <a4j:outputPanel> set to "true" allows to define the area of the page that will be re-rendered even if it is not pointed in the reRender attribute explicitly. It might be useful if you have an area on a page that should be updated as a response on any Ajax request.

JSF 2 now has basic Ajax support via f:ajax tag. RichFaces 3 has a very popular a4j:support tag (in fact, f:ajax was inspired by a4j:support). RichFaces 4 comes with a4j:ajax which is based on f:ajax but upgrades the tag with more features and advanced functionality.

Nov 06, 2008 · Use the onClick attribute of the command button to open the modal. the reRender attribute should point to your datatable id. This should do it for you. BTW, you do not need to add any action listener to that button.
