Hi, I plan to build a desktop to run VMware Workstation 8.0. According to the official system requirements, the system will need to support: * 64-bit x86 CPU * LAHF/SAHF in long mode * VT-x All the processors I'm interested in are 64-bit Intel x86 CPUs, so that's not a problem.

Oct 09, 2011 · The DL360/DL380 G4 models have 64 bit XEON processors. However, these processors do not support Intel-VT as well as other features of the newer processor generations. I also have some of these models in my lab and run ESXi 4.1 on them (with 32 bit guests only). It looks like ESXi 5 has requirements which cannot be met by these XEON CPUs though.

LAHF/SAHF support in long mode You can use CPU-Z or a similar utility to determine if the host system CPU is 64-bit capable. CPU-Z shows EM64T (Intel) or AMD64 (AMD) if the processor is 64-bit capable. If you plan to install a 64-bit guest operating system in a virtual machine, the host system must have one of the following processors.

x86-64 (also known as x64, x86_64, AMD64 and Intel 64) is the 64-bit version of the x86 instruction set. It introduces two new modes of operation, 64-bit mode and compatibility mode, along with a new 4-level paging mode. With 64-bit mode and the new paging mode, it supports vastly larger amounts of virtual memory...
