Nov 21, 2013 · The typical home computer comes with Win7x64 Home Premium which only supports using up to 16Gb ram. It’s sure OK to install more than 16Gb ram (assuming the motherboard supports it), but Win7x64 Home Premium will limit itself to using only 16Gb ram. To use more than 16Gb ram in Win7x64, you need Pro or Ultimate or Enterprise versions.

I have never had a problem with Crucial RAM, and from what I understand it is one of the brands that people have the fewest problems with in Lenovo systems, but from what I can tell, the RAM you need for a Thinkpad X250is DDR3-1600 1.35V and not DDR4, and you may not be able to go to 16GB unless your processor supports it.

    https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/275940-motherboard-with-16gb-lga775-for-q9650
Jul 29, 2013 · I didn't see any 775 motherboards that would support 16GB of ram. If you have to buy a motherboard anyway I would say sell the q9650 and get the ivy bridge i3-3225 with a motherboard that supports the 16Gb or more of ram that way you have upgrade-ability and a much cooler running system that will out perform the first processor.
